Historically shaped by the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, India’s legal framework was designed for colonial governance, with limited adaptation to contemporary challenges. As society advanced, the gaps in addressing issues like cybercrime and individual rights became evident. In response, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam emerged, marking a shift towards a modern, indigenous justice system. These reforms align law with India’s socio-cultural context and evolving societal needs.
This course offers a comprehensive understanding of these new legal frameworks, examining their provisions, implications, and the shifts they introduce to the existing criminal justice landscape.
